Statementing Moderating Panel (SMP)
The procedure for statementing is as follows:
-
A referral by the family doctor for the child to be assessed at the CDAU or to a private educational psychologist for assessment. This should be done once it is verified that the school in question has done everything possible to support the child with the resources available at school.
-
Once the process at the CDAU is done and medicals are issued, which should include a psychological assessment report, then these should be presented to the school so that an application form is filled up and forwarded to the Statementing Moderating Panel. In the case of a private psychologist - the same applies. In the case of a child with a physical disability - we will need medicals showing such disability.
-
Parents are then given an appointment to appear infront of the Statementing Moderating Panel together with the child and the Panel makes the necessary recommendations eg. facilitator support etc.
-
The SMP will then forward the statement of needs to the Education Division who in turn will inform the Head of School. Parents will also receive a copy of the statement issued by the SMP.
